It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of a club legend Peter Guptill. Sadly Peter passed away last night after a battle which unfortunately ended his innings far too soon. Peter was surrounded by friends and family. Our love and thoughts are with Ben & Martin and the extended families at this time. Funeral details will be advised once known.
Peter was a Suburbs stalwart, there from the beginning with SNLCC. His name first appears in the 1st Annual report in 1972/73 playing 2nd grade. He made his Premier debut in 1976/77 where he continued to play for the next 21 years. His last full season for the Prems was 1997/98. However, Peter wasn't quite done with his playing days at this point and continued to play for a further 10 years and in particular filling in for the seconds when ever was required. An amazing career of over 35 years playing for the club.Peter is the second highest run scorer of all time with 11,901 runs to his name.He has served on the committee for many years, as Junior Chairman, Chairman 2002 - 2005 and then most recently as President 2012 - 2015.Peter's last visit to the club was in April, while battling his illness to watch, and of course, pass much comment on the 'Old boys' game that was taking place.Never one to be short of a word or two, Peter had plenty of advice to share with those playing, as well as telling a few stories to those supporting.Peter - we salute you, you are a club legend and you will be sadly missed. RIP our dear friend.
Funeral details are confirmed as below. Will be great to see a good turn out to farewell Guppy so if you can make it we will see you there. We are trying to get the clubroom for a drink afterwards to share stories and if we can’t (football season) I am sure we can find somewhere else.
